June 21, 2004 Tweflth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Cycle C

FIRST READING: Jer. 33: 14-16 "I will cause a good seed to spring forth from David." The days are coming, says the Lord, when promises will be fulfilled. A virtuous branch shall grow, a branch of honesty and integrity.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps. 25 "To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul."

SECOND READING:

1 Thess. 3: 12 - 4: 2 "When Christ comes may he strengthen your hearts in holiness."

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

Ps. 85: 8 "Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation."

GOSPEL: Lk. 21: 25-28, 34-36

"Your redemption is near at hand." Jesus said to his disciples to watch the signs for the powers of heaven will be shaking. Stay awake and pray at all times.

FOCUS: We are called to live virtuous lives, remain alert to the signs in our lives, and to pray at all times.

REFLECTION: If thou wish to reach the prefection of love, it befits thee to set thy life in order.

St. Catherine of Siena

Christ is born that by his birth he might restore our nature. He became child, was fed, and grew that he might inaugurate the one perfect age to remain forever as he created it. He supports us that we might no longer fall. And the creature he formed of earth he now makes heavenly. Leo the Great

Don't imagine that if you had a great deal of time you would spend more of it in prayer. Get rid of that idea! St. Teresa of Avila

Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your

salvation.

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: The mood of the liturgy in advent is joyful anticipation. Our Lord is coming! Through baptism we entered into a special union with God. Part of our advent is in becoming aware of the depth of that union and how it affects our lives.

Sprinkling rite or

Penitential rite: Third form with second set of sample invocations

Sample General Intercessions:

My dear brothers and sisters, as we prepare for the coming of Christ let us thank God for his mercy.

For the Holy Church of God, that it remain attentive and awake to the needs of all people;

For those who work for peace, that their vigilance will be strengthened;

For those in positions of authority, that the Lord Jesus will guide them to seek good for all humankind;

For all those deprived of freedom because of what they believe or what they are, that God in His mercy will deliver them from oppression;

For our parish and local community, that Christ will find us watchful and ready, with hearts full of love, at his coming.

Memorial acclamation: Second or third

The Lord's Prayer: See fourth sample invitation to prayer

Prayers over the people: First or sixteenth

or

Solemn Blessing in Advent

Faith Formation

Living in the light of the Gospel is the only way to make ready for the celebration of His birth, and for the Second Coming , and for our deaths when we will surely be glad we lived lives of love and mercy.

Be aware of God's presence at all times. Prayer doesn't have to be in words. It can be an ongoing feeling of awareness and love.
