June 21, 2004 Tweflth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Cycle C
July 25, 2004 Seventeeth Sunday in Ordinary Time

FIRST READING: Micah 5: 1-4

"Out of you will be born the one who is to rule over Israel." The Lord said that out of Bethlehem will be born the ruler of Israel. The Lord will abandon them until she who is to give birth gives birth.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps. 80 "God of hosts, bring us back; let your face shine on us and we shall be changed.."

SECOND READING:

Heb. 10: 5-10 "I am coming to do your will."

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

Lk. 1: 38 "Behold the handmaid of the Lord. May his will for me be done."

GOSPEL: Lk. 1: 39-45

"Why should it happen that I am honored with a visit from the mother of my Lord." Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. Upon hearing Mary's voice, the child stirred in Elizabeth's womb. She cried out that of all women Mary was the most blessed.

FOCUS: "I am the servant of the Lord; may his will for me be done."

REFLECTION: "Glory of virgins, the joy of mothers, the support of the faithful, the diadem of the Church, the model of the true Faith, the seat of piety, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit."

Proclus of Constantinople

"So you have begun to realize what real peace means. Glory be to God! Then what is the matter? Now you must advance into the realm where this peace is to be found. Seek Paradise lost, in order to sing the praise of Paradise regained. That is all that matters. Everything outside and apart from this peace is emptiness. And this peace is not far, it is almost within your grasp, although you must desire it, and to desire is not so easy. May the Mother of God and your Guardian Angel help you!

Theophane the Recluse

"Behold the handmaid of the Lord. May his will for me be done."

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Introduce the liturgy by stating that in Mary the hopes and dreams of the people of God have been fulfilled.

Opening Prayer: Alternate

Introduce the profession of faith with the idea that with faith like that of Mary anything is possible.

Sample General Intercessions:

Introduction: My sisters and brothers, rejoice, for nothing is impossible with God. Let us offer our prayers and hopes to God who has done great things among his people:

For everyone everywhere, that the Holy Spirit guide those who love;

For those who work with the poor and suffering, that they be strengthened in their efforts;

For those suffering from loneliness, or sickness and those who are dying, that they recognize God's saving presence in their lives;

For our community and our families who welcome Christ into their lives, that they may receive God in the poor and suffering in our midst.

Solemn Blessing in Advent

Faith Formation

Advent-Christmastime is a time to celebrate God in the lives of those who live with love and faith. Mary's humility shows us the way. With love and faith and God's grace we can accomplish great things.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Let your familiarity with the gospels enable you to tell the children the whole advent story, Sunday by Sunday.
