June 21, 2004 Tweflth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Cycle C
July 25, 2004 Seventeeth Sunday in Ordinary Time

FIRST READING:

Is. 60: 1-6 "The glory of the Lord shines upon you."

RESPONSORIAL PSALM:

Ps. 72 "All nations shall prostrate before you, O Lord."

SECOND READING:

Eph. 3: 2-3, 5-6 "The revelation means that pagans now share the same inheritance, that they are parts of the same body."

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

Mt. 2: 2 "We have seen his star in the east; and have come to adore the Lord."

GOSPEL:

Mt. 2: 1-12 "We have come from the East to worship the king."

FOCUS: "We have seen his star and have come to do him homage." Filled with awe and wonder, we come to the one who is God's manifestation of love.

REFLECTION: "You seek the Lord? Seek, but only within yourself. He is not far from anyone. The Lord is near all those who truly call on Him. Find a place in your heart, and speak there with the Lord. It is the Lord's reception room. Everyone who meets the Lord, meets Him there; He has fixed no other place for meeting souls."   Theophane the Recluse

"Born of a virgin, he came forth from the womb as the light of the whole world in order to shine on all people. His light is received by those who long for the splendor of perpetual light that night can never destroy. The sun of our daily experience is succeeded by darkness of night, but the sun of holiness never sets, because wisdom cannot give place to evil."

St. Ambrose

"We have seen his star in the east; and have come to adore the Lord."

Let us adore Jesus in our hearts, who spent thirty years of thirty-three in silence; who began his public life by spending forty days in silence; who often retired alone to spend the night on a mountain in silence. He who spoke with authority, now spends his earthly life in silence. Let us adore Jesus in the eucharistic silence.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta

You are love,

You are wisdom,

You are humility,

You are endurance,

You are rest,

You are peace.

You are joy and gladness,

You are justice and mod - eration

You are all our riches,

And you suffice for us.

You are beauty,

You are gentleness.

You are our protector,

You are our guardian and defender.

You are our courage.

You are our haven and our hope.

You are our faith,

Our great consolation,

You are our eternal life,

Great and wonderful Lord,

God almighty,

Merciful Saviour

St. Francis of Assisi

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Today we celebrate the revelation of Jesus to the world beyond his family. In Jesus we are one body, called from all peoples to be united with him. Gestures and prayer invitations that break down the walls between us are appropriate, for today we celebrate mighty kings together with lowly shepherds, gentile together with Jew. We come to unite in one Lord.

SUGGESTED PREFACE/PRAYER SELECTIONS:

Sprinkling rite

or

Penitential rite: Third form with third set of sample invocations.

Eucharistic Prayer: Roman Canon with the proper commemorations for Christmas

Prayers over the people: Seventh

Solemn Blessing for Christmas

Faith Formation

The Epiphany is the feast of Christ revealed. Holy men in distant lands had heard of the Divine Birth and came to worship him. They recognized what they saw and prostrated themselves to him, the Son of God.
