Gen. 1: 1 - 2: 2 "God looked at everything he made, and found that it was good."

Ps. 33 "The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord."

Ps. 16 "You are my inheritance, O Lord."

Ex. 14: 15 - 15: 1 "The Israelite's marched on dry land through the midst of the sea."

Immediately, the Responsorial Psalm begins.

Ex. 15 "Let us sing to the Lord, he has covered himself in glory!"

Is. 54: 5-14 "With enduring love, the Lord your redeemer takes pity on you."

Ps. 30 "I will praise you Lord, you have rescued me."

Is. 55: 1-11 "Come to me that you may have life. I will renew with you an everlasting covenant."

Is. 12 "You will draw water joyfully from the spirngs of salvation."

Bar. 3: 9-15, 32 - 4: 4 "Walk towards the splendor of the Lord."

Ps. 19 "Lord, you have the words of everlasting life."

Gen. 22: 1-18 "I shall sprinkle clean water upon you and I shall give you a new heart."

Ps. 42-43 "Like a deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you." Or

When Baptism is celebrated Isaiah 12 may be used. Or

Ps. 51 "Create a clean heart in me."

Rom. 6: 3-11 "Christ raised from the dead, dies no more."

Lk. 24: 1-12 "Why do you seek the Living One among the dead."

FOCUS: "Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified, has risen."

REFLECTION: "Tonight, Christians everywhere are washed of sin and restored to grace."

From the Exsultet

scriptural topics: solemnity, glory, joy, initiation, history of salvation, resurrection, life, hope.

O mystery beyond our thought,

To take earth's stain away,

And lift the burden sin hath

brought,

And cleanse this coarser clay.

What deed can more sublime ap-

pear?

For sorrow seeks for grace,

And love releases mortal fear,

And death renews the race.

Death seizes on the bitter barb,

And binds herself thereto,

And life is clad in deathly garb,

And life shall rise anew.

When death through earth has

made its path,

Then all the dead shall rise,

And death, consumed by heavenly

wrath,

In groans, and lonely, dies.

St. Ambrose

"Then souls, arising with anxious desire, run, with virtue, by the bridge of the doctrine of Christ crucified and arrive at the gate, lifting up their minds in Me, and by My blood and burning with the fire of love they taste in Me, the eternal Deity, Who am to them a sea pacific with whom the souls have made so great union, and they have no movement except in Me. And being yet mortal, they taste the good of the immortals, and having yet the weight of the body, they receive the joy of the spirit."

St. Catherine of Siena

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: There are nine readings and eight psalm responses assigned for this night, recounting the history of God's communion with people. While all the readings may be too much for some parishes, the integrity of Judeo-Christian salvation history must be kept intact. From Genesis to the Resurrection there is a continuity of revelation. The account of the crossing of the Red Sea must be included. Keep together the historic progression of God's salvation.
