June 15, 2003, Trinity Sunday Cycle B

FIRST READING:

Deut. 4: 32-34, 39-40 "The Lord and no other is God , in heaven and on earth." Keep the commandments as I give them today.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM:

Ps. 33 "Happy the people the Lord has chosen as his own."

SECOND READING:

Rom. 8: 14-17 "You have received the Spirit that makes you God's own children, and in that Spirit, we call God: ‘Father, our Father!'"

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

See Rev. 1: 8 "Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: to God who is, who was, and who is to come."

GOSPEL:

Mt. 28: 16-20 "Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

FOCUS: "Glory to the Father, and to the Son and the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen." In God there is great diversity and mystery.

REFLECTION: Though the persons of the blessed Trinity be all alike in their attributes, it was their love that was the most shown to me and that is the closest to us all.

Bl. Julian of Norwich

Describe him as you will: good, fair Lord, sweet, merciful, righteous, wise, all-knowing, strong one, almighty; as knowledge, wisdom, might, strength, love or charity, and you will find them in this little word is.

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Begin the liturgy quietly, with a sense of contemplation that reflects the mystery of the Trinity. Consider using an entrance chant or litany such as the Trisagion (Holy is God) to help instill this sense of mystery. Songs and prayer introductions should focus on the will of God made manifest in a variety of ways. Focus on Holy Spirit who will lead us towards the truth, through love.

Introductory Rite:

The Rite of Sprinkling with Holy Water: The triune God is made manifest in the Holy Spirit who draws the church together to pray

General Intercessions:

Introduction: Gathered together in Christ as brothers and sisters, let us call to mind God's blessings, and thank him for them. Let us ask God to hear our prayers, through the Holy Spirit.

•That God may bring all Christians together in love and faith;

• That God may take the evil of war away from our world;

• May we always show our love to those who lack food, work , or shelter;

• That we may all reach out in love to all our sisters and brothers;

• For all of us gathered in this holy place in faith, reverence, and love of God, may we appreciate what has

been given to us by God Himself.

Preface: Preface of the Holy Trinity

Concluding Rite:

Solemn Blessing: First or fifth or Solemn Blessing: Of the Holy Spirit

Faith Formation

Jesus gives us, his followers, our mission in today's gospel. Jesus told his disciples that all power on heaven and earth had been given to him, and therefore they should go forth, baptizing people in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. We are to teach what Jesus taught, that love of God and one another is the way to heaven. And he will be with us always, until the end of time.

Let us reach out to others and see them each in the light of God's love.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

To baptize means to cleanse. When we are cleansed in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, we are so clean we can be in God's presence, forever.

Jesus tells us to love God and one another. That is his commandment to us. Love is what pleases God.

June 24 is the feast of the nativity of St. John the Baptist. Read about it from the Gospels to the children.
