Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Cycle B
July 13, 2003
FIRST READING:
Amos 7: 12-15 "Go, prophesy to my people."
RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
Ps. 85 "Let us see, O Lord, your mercy and give us your saving help."
SECOND READING:
Eph. 1: 3-14 "Before the world was made, he chose us in Christ."
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:
see Eph. 1: 17-18 "May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our heart that we might see how great is the hope to which we are called."
GOSPEL:
Mk. 6: 7-13 "He called the Twelve, and began to send them out."
FOCUS: Jesus sends his disciples to preach repentance, heal the sick and cast out devils.
REFLECTION: Make the following rule:first of all, anticipate trouble at every moment and when it comes encounter it as something expected. Secondly, when something happens that conflicts with your will and is on the point of irritating or upsetting you, hasten to bring your attention into your heart and strive with all your might to prevent such feelings from arising: steel yourself against them and pray. If you succeed in preventing feelings of irritation and disturbance from arising within you, then you are finished with your trouble, for these feelings are its starting point. But if even a small feeling is brought to birth, resolve, if possible, not to do or say anything until you have managed to drive it away. If you find it impossible not to say or do something, try
"He called the Twelve, and began to send them out."
APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: An introduction to the Liturgy of the Word might include a special lectionary procession, sprinkling with Holy Water and incensing of the Holy Books and an extended gospel acclamation/procession. An introduction during the liturgy of the Eucharist could focus on the healing power of the body and blood of Christ.
Sample General Intercessions:
Introduction: My dear brothers and sisters, may all who follow Christ do so with joy.
¥ For the Holy Church of God, that we may all be faithful to our baptismal call;
¥ May church and civil authorities be blessed by God with an appreciation of mercy;
¥ May we Catholics of this local community come together and form a family based on love;
¥ÊMay all those oppressed by need and sickness be comforted by us Christians;
¥ For all of us gathered here, that God will draw us ever closer to him and to eternal blessing;
¥ May God's love and peace bring everyone to salvation.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
Help the children find a way to serve God. Talk about the saints and how they lived in love with God and his creatures, no matter what their conditions were. It doesn't matter what conditions life presents to you, dear children, what matters is how you respond to those conditions.
