Journey into Self Discovery

FIRST READING:
Is. 43: 18-19, 21-22, 24-25
On account of me your iniquities are blotted out.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
Ps. 41 Lord, heal my soul, for I have sinned.
SECOND READING:
2 Cor. 1: 18-22 Every promise of God finds its affirmation in Jesus.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:
Alleluia.
GOSPEL:
Mk. 2: 1-12 The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins .

FOCUS: We are called to be like Jesus and forgive the sins of others, and to allow miracles to happen.
scriptural topics: forgiveness, authority, pardon, mercy.
REFLECTION: You say that you are offended. To be offended at lack of attention is to consider oneself worthy of attention, and consequently to set a high value upon oneself in the heart; in other words, to have a heart swollen with pride. Is this good?

Theophane the Recluse
Again and again our judgement about an issue depends on the way our sympathies are engaged; a personal preference can easily rob us of the power to see straight. This obstinacy in our own opinions would have less power to disturb our judgements if all the desire of our hearts found its only scope in God.
People are influenced in their actions by undercurrents of self-seeking ... All seems to go well with them as long as everything turns out in accordance with their wishes, their plans; but when their wills are thwarted, they lose their balance and get angry ... Let awareness of our own self-seeking lead us to live a humble life following the teachings of Christ. Thomas ˆ KempisEvery promise of God finds its affirmation in Jesus.
APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Introduce the liturgy by stating that, strengthened by the Word of God, and empowered through partaking of the Eucharist, we receive the grace necessary to follow Christ. An invitation to the Lords Prayer could point out that it is Gods grace that is leading us to pray.
SUGGESTED PREFACE/PRAYER SELECTIONS:
Sample General Intercessions:
My sisters and brothers, we are called to lead our lives in a spirit of total mercy for others. Let us ask the Lord to guide us:
¥ For the people of God, that we may practice love and compassion for pure motives with no expectation of any reward, but becuse we love Him.
¥ For the peace and well-being of the whole world, that we allow Gods grace to lead us to Him;
¥ÊFor those who suffer from oppression, that they may be comforted by awareness of Gods presence and love;
¥ For all those who hunger for consolation, that they receive the joyful message that God is here among us;
¥ÊFor our families and community, that
through our love they are led to see Gods grace in all people.
Preface for Sundays in O.T.: Sixth
Prayers over the people: Second
Faith Formation
The sacraments of the Church are a primary source of grace. By making frequent use of them we find it ever easier to do what God asks of us.

of the Word
Jesus tells us to love those who hurt us just as much as those who treat us kindly. He says its easy to be nice to those who are nice to us, but he wants us to be kind to everyone. That means no getting even when someone hurts us. It means being friendly to those who need a friend, not just to those with whom we want to be friends. It means refraining from hurting people, even when we have the power to hurt them.
But we dont have to spend a lot of time with people who hurt us. We can love them from a distance, thinking good thoughts about them and praying for them.
