June 29, Peter and Paul, apostles

FIRST READING:

Acts 12:1-11 "The Lord rescues Peter from Herod's prison."

RESPONSORIAL PSALM:

Psalm 34: 2-3.4-5.6-7.8-9 "The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him."

SECOND READING:

2 Timothy 4: 6-8.17-18 "Paul concludes his letter, ready for the Day of the Lord."

GOSPEL:

Matthew 16:13-19 Jesus asks,

"Who do people say I am?"

FOCUS: "The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him." The unlimited compassion of Jesus raises the dead and heals those who have faith in him.

REFLECTION: Nothing must keep us back, nothing separate us from him, nothing come between us and him. At all times and seasons, in every country and place, every day and all day, we must have a true and humble faith, and keep him in our hearts where we must love, honour, adore, serve, praise and bless, glorify and acclaim, magnify and thank, the most high supreme and eternal God, three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Creator of All and Saviour of those who believe in him, who hope in him, and who love him; without beginning and without end, he is unchangeable, invisible, indescribable and ineffable, incomprehensible, unfathomable, blessed and worthy of all praise. St. Francis of Assisi

Who do people say I am?

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Focus on the Sacraments as developments of the healing ministry of Jesus. Introduce the liturgy by emphasizing the healing capacity of the liturgy and our need to "enter" with faith.

Penitential Rite: Third with seventh set of invocations

Opening prayer: See alternative

General Intercessions:

Introduction: My sisters and brothers, we are gathered to celebrate the mystery of our healing and salvation in Christ Jesus. Let us ask God our Father to open for all the world this fountain of life and blessing.

¥ For all who have dedicated themselves to the Lord, may God help them to be faithful to their purpose;

¥ For peace among nations, that God may help us rid the world and our hearts of violence;

¥ For all those who suffer from loneliness, especially the aged, may we sustain them by our love;

¥ For all of us gathered here, that God may guide us to Him and His eternal blessings.

Preface: See fourth preface for Sundays in Ordinary Time

Use a fraction rite such as "Lamb of God", recounting some of the healing miracles of Jesus, as a preparation for the Eucharist.Concluding Rite:

Prayers over the People: Fifth

Faith Formation

Jesus desires to heal us but sometimes our lack of faith prevents us from being healed. Sometimes we don't even know we need to be healed. This is why it is important to

spend some time alone with God, to ask His forgiveness for our sins, to think about the mistakes we have made and to praise Him for His healing and blessings.

We wanted to know what God knows: how to have eternal life. Desire for this knowledge condemned us to death. But God forgave us. Now, we still die, but we will have life everlasting in heaven with God, if we live according to what we now know is good.
