Jn. 10: 11-18 "The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep."

FOCUS: "I am the good shepherd." Jesus reveals that he is the way through which we shall reach God.

APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Emphasize that Jesus came, not merely as a teacher or judge, but to open our eyes to God, that God accepts everyone, even those rejected by others. A lamb of God fraction rite could be used based on the images from today's gospel: Jesus the shepherd, followers of Jesus as his flock, building on a corner stone, etc.

Faith Formation

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, leads us to God the Father through an uncertain world. But we may be at peace with ourselves and each other, secure in the knowledge that we are guided by love, the love that God Himself has for us all.

¥ Why is it a good idea for sheep to

follow and respond to a shepherd?

We call Jesus "Lord" because he is our leader. During the Easter season we celebrate his triumph over death and call him risen Lord. His victory over death proves to us that he is the Good Shepherd, the one who will lead us to eternal life.

Point out to the children the metaphors used here, and what is the reality they refer to. Why are metaphors used? To describe reality in ways beyond words.
